Alberta Election Act 

Alberta's Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act 


As of August 1, 2019, the Election Commissioner will begin accepting and investigating complaints and allegations related to campaign finance and contribution disclosure rules (Part 5.1), as well as third party advertising rules (Part 8), under the Local Authorities Election Act.

The enforcement authority of the Election Commissioner related to elections held for municipal councilors, school board trustees, irrigation district board members and Metis Settlement councilors will be contained in a new Part 9 of the Local Authorities Election Act, which comes into force on August 1, 2019. 

The enlarged mandate of the Election Commissioner was defined in Bill 23: An Act to Renew Local Democracy in Alberta which was passed into law on December 11, 2018.
